nancy asked
“soon dear…i’m almost ready..”

she ram into her room…she had already taken
her bath and kept the clothe she was going to
wear…she knew her dad would not refuse
her….nancy is the second and last child of the
thompson…she is 23 and just graduated…she
is currently helping in the company…
the next 30 mins saw them in the hospital…
“you can go into ivan’s room…let me speak
with the doctor..”

“come in…hello sir…good morning sir..”

“thank you…so doctor..talk to me..what you
told me over the phone…how true is it.?”
“well…sir….what i said is true…he has a
50/50 chance of regaining his sight but its not
as easy as it sounds..”

“ok…due to the accident…the bony orbital
walls were fractured which will lead to a
swelling in and around the eye and…
“please shorten the long sermon”
“okay..okay…i will need him to be coming here
on a weekly basis for examination and
evaluation of extra-ocular movements…pro
ptosis…enophthalmos and nerve sensation on
the forehead and cheek…most orbital fracture
heal on their own though but if after..tests…
examination and evaluation incuding
treatments and his eyes doesnt improve we’ll
go for surgical repair…all i’m saying here is
that there is hope for your son..”
“hmmm…ok…ok….how soon can we start..?”
“eeerrmmm..i’ll let you know..let him wake
up…i’ll run some more test on him and i’ll get
back to you sir..”
“hmm..ok..that’s fine…anything else..?”
“uumm…yes sir…the monetary aspect…you’ll
need to make a deposit of..
“if it’s money..don’t worry about it…just text
me the amount and other details..its my son
we’re talking about here…money is no

mr thompson took his phone and checked the
callers i.d…it was nancy..
“why is this girl calling…can’t she just come to
the office…hello…nancy..”
“daddy..daddy…come to ivan’s room…i think
he’s waking up..”
“ehn..ehn…i’m coming right away.”
“doctor…she says he is awake..”
“ok sir…lets go..”
they rushed to ivan’s room and met him fully
awake..
“ivan…ivan…can you hear me..?”
“yes dadsy…i can’t see…where i’m i…why

“calm down..the doctor spoke…you are in the
hospital…and….
then everything came back to him…he was
driving at a high speed….he promised bella he
would be with her that afternoon by two…he
was running late…he did not see the truck
coming
“doctor…my head…its hurting me.”
“ok….you have to calm down…stop trying to
think…keep calm..”
“(breathing heavily)..ok..atleast put on the
lights let me see you..why is everywhere
dark..??”
nancy could no longer stop herself from
crying..
“nancy..is that you..?”
“(sobbing)…yes bro..”
“why are you crying…i’m still alive…please go
and switch on the light.”
“ummm…mr ivan.?
“yes doctor…wait..don’t say anything…let
nancy switch on the lighe so i can see
you…nancy move na..”
“i’m sorry mr ivan…but you lost your sight in
the accident sir.”
“(laughing)…dad…did you hear that…this
doctor is very funny…lost my sight ke..”

“shut up doctor…dad…dad…please tell me he
is lying…i can’t be blind…its not
possible..nancy…please tell me its a joke..”

“somebody talk to me…anybody..”
“mr ivan…listen…i

“i’m sorry son but he is telling the truth..”
“no…no…no…it can’t be…(trying to stand
up….removing what was connected to his body
and acting mad..)…i’m not blind…get me out
of here..”…he was screaming now..
“ivan please calm down…doctor do
something…he is throwing a tantrum..”
the doctor brought out a syringe and with the
help of the nurses around they were able to
hold him down and the doctor injected him..he
fell asleep almost immediately..
